Three learners from Springboard who have achieved outstanding results in their training programmes were rewarded with a VIP visit to tall ship Mercedes when she was tied up at Newcastle ahead of the Tall Ships race on 28th July 2005.
Once of the learners, Catherine Taker, has achieved an E2E Gold Star Award for completing her fast fit level one motor vehicle programme with 100% attendance. Catherine's tutor, Project Officer Dave Quinn from Hetton is delighted with her performance. "As well as her Motor Vehicle certificate she has also passed literacy level one, a great achievement for a young lady with dyslexia in a very male orientated career."

21 year-old Graphic Designer Sam Hakansson, an Apprentice with Upstream Communications, won the award for Best Skills for Life Learner. Dave Cawley, Sam’s assessor, thinks he has done particularly well. "Sam joined as a level one learner and through hard work and dedication has now almost completed his Apprenticeship."
Richard Martin age 47 based at Springboard's Adult Learning Centre in Pennywell won the Adult Learner of the Year award. Justine Shepherd Adult Training Officer believes the event and atmosphere on the Quayside side was fantastic. "All of these learners deserve to be here today. They deserve our warmest congratulations and best wishes for the future."
