News : Quids In! (19/05/2006)
Former ETEC trainee Will Murray is quids in thanks to a new scheme aimed at getting more young people into work. Will, 17, of Shiney Row, Houghton-le-Spring, was placed with Provincial Tyres, in Sunderland, in October 2005 as part of the Entry to Employment (E2E) programme.

After five months on placement, Provincial decided to employer the former Pennywell School pupil. Now he’s working full-time, learning how to fit tyres and other parts to a wide range of vehicles.
Will said: “I don’t think I would have got this chance had I not gone on placement with Provincial as part of the E2E programme. Being on placement has given me the chance to prove myself.”
The new scheme enables employers to claim a wage subsidy of £40 per week for up to 16 weeks if they give an E2E trainee a job – with or without training. The offer is available until July 2006 and only a limited number of places exist. Trainees must be employed by the company for 16 weeks or more.
