A group of E2E learners from Springboard Hetton took part in an aid convoy to North Africa last October.
Working alongside a similar E2E group from Oakfield Solutions in Newcastle, the Rainbow Rovers carried medical supplies, horticultural tools, clothing and vehicle spares to refugees from the Western Sahara forced into exile when their own country was invaded.
The convoy sees teams from all over the UK join up for the 3000 mile journey through France, Spain and then via ferry to North Africa and over the Sahara Desert to Tindouf. Once there the teams leave their transport and fly home.
As well as the long journey, the team had to spend a great deal of time before they went raising money to cover the cost of food and travel. All agreed the Rainbow Rovers project had been well worth the effort.
