Staff based at the Roker branch of Springboard provide specialist training in three key vocational areas. Staff offering Early Years, Elderly / Hospital Care and Business Administration are also keen to cater for learners who find it difficult to access training in normal working hours.

As part of their programmes in these areas learners attend placements in Washington, South Shields, Jarrow and Houghton as well as nearer to the Sunderland base. NVQ qualifications at levels 1-3 are available and on Apprenticeship schemes, Technical, Key Skills, First Aid and Food Hygiene certificates are also awarded.
Child Care Co-ordinator at Roker, Debbie May, believes the opening of a new Nursery is an exciting venture. "Childcare learners are involved in all aspects of running the Nursery from choosing toys to planning activities and of course looking after the children. There is no better way to learn than by becoming involved."
